Freedom Where Are You? I Need Freedom Too!

Freedom

Twice in one day we have been informed and witnessed two black men being killed by the hands of police officers.  These are the very people who took an oath to protect and serve, who we are supposed to turn to when we are in trouble.  Don’t get me wrong not all police are corrupt, racist, trigger happy thugs/bullies.  Just like all blacks are not criminals or a threat.  Just like all white people are not racist.  There are absolutely some very good officers wearing the uniforms – I know plenty (went to school with them).  So this applies to who it applies to – unapologetically speaking.  If we cannot trust every officer we encounter, what does that mean for us?  What do we do?  What about our rights or free liberties?  Does it not apply to us because the rights were written when blacks were being treated as property?  Black men and women being:  bought and sold; raped because it was the masters right; beating; torn from their families, and mentally abused.  What is really interesting is how all of these horrible actions where done all while the master was quoting and teaching the bible.  Did I mention the slaves were allowed to practice the religion the master told them about, however, certain books were removed?  The rights of America must not apply to blacks because time and time again we hear a not guilty verdict, even when there is video evidence.  Interesting!!!

Interesting, really annoying, how some people’s responses to such tragedies are: “well black lives will matter when blacks stop killing blacks” or “well if he/she wasn’t resisting arrest or obeying the officer it wouldn’t happen”.  Looka here – Yes, blacks need to stop killing one another.  Yes, we as a race are divided.  Yes, we at this moment are angry (and growing angrier by the day, with every new incident and with every ‘not guilty verdict’).  Yes, this is very painful.  Yes, when there is black on black crime we want justice in those cases too.  Yes, we need to unite.  Let me tell you something, the black people killing other black people aren’t the people that are getting paid (by our tax dollars) to protect and serve us!!!  So please tell me why this comment keeps coming up?  Also tell me why the media will dig up the VICTIMS deepest darkest secrets or past transgressions in order to make it appear to be a justified shooting.  Well, hell no let’s call it what it is – these people of color were MURDERED!!!  The whole thing about the VICTIM needed to listen to the officer and stop resisting.  Man o man, please tell me what your natural response would be if someone is trying to snap your wrist/arm while trying to put you in handcuffs?  Tell me what your natural response will be when you are not resisting and an officer’s knee is on your back or neck with full pressure being applied?  Tell me what your response will be when you are following an officer’s command and they still attack you?  Tell me what your response will be if you are crying out in pain and your cries go unheard?  Did you come up with your natural response yet?  Well, your natural response would be to go into survival mode.  Note:  I did not see anything in the recent videos of people of color being killed by officers of the law that would be resisting or cause for being shot in cold blood.

Freedom???

We are all free right?  To tell you the truth I don’t even know if I truly know what freedom is.  How can I know freedom if I worry about if I am going to make it home if I get pulled over?  How can I know freedom if something happened to me by a person of authority there will be no justice?  How can I know freedom if I fear a person in authority more than a stranger on the street?  How can I know freedom if there are certain places in this country I would not go?  How can I know freedom when I have to worry about my child going to the store?  How Sway how? Yeah we are free – free to:  go to work; pay taxes; keep our mouth shut; buy products, and stay divided.  That’s some sweet freedom huh?  Some people will read this post and say – you don’t like it hear then go back to Africa.  If I don’t belong here because of my ancestry, then neither does most of the citizens of these here United States because the last I check this country was already occupied when it was “discovered”.  So cut the BS.

I am having a hard time today.  Please tell me as a black woman born and raised in the USA, why am I questioning the word freedom in 2016?  Is the only way for a person of color in America to have freedom is in death?  Crazy!!!  We need to be love.  The only thing to eliminate darkness is light.  We need to come together for real.  I know I am committed, are you?

God be with:  the families of the victims; my family and friends; my associates; me; just everyone.

Freedom by Beyoncé (featuring Kendrick Lamar) – DON’T SLEEP ON THIS SONG!!!

[Beyoncé:]
Tryna rain, tryna rain on the thunder
Tell the storm I’m new
I’ma walk, I’ma march on the regular
Painting white flags blue
Lord forgive me, I’ve been running
Running blind in truth
I’ma rain, I’ma rain on this bitter love
Tell the sweet I’m new

I’m telling these tears, “Go and fall away, fall away”
May the last one burn into flames

Freedom! Freedom! I can’t move
Freedom, cut me loose!
Freedom! Freedom! Where are you?
Cause I need freedom too!
I break chains all by myself
Won’t let my freedom rot in hell
Hey! I’ma keep running
Cause a winner don’t quit on themselves

I’ma wade, I’ma wave through the waters
Tell the tide, “Don’t move”
I’ma riot, I’ma riot through your borders
Call me bulletproof
Lord forgive me, I’ve been runnin’
Runnin’ blind in truth
I’ma wade, I’ma wave through your shallow love
Tell the deep I’m new

I’m telling these tears, “Go and fall away, fall away”
May the last one burn into flames

Freedom! Freedom! I can’t move
Freedom, cut me loose!
Freedom! Freedom! Where are you?
Cause I need freedom too!
I break chains all by myself
Won’t let my freedom rot in hell
Hey! I’ma keep running
Cause a winner don’t quit on themselves

[Kendrick Lamar:]
Ten Hail Marys, I meditate for practice
Channel 9 news tell me I’m movin’ backwards
Eight blocks left, death is around the corner
Seven misleadin’ statements ’bout my persona
Six headlights wavin’ in my direction
Five-O askin’ me what’s in my possession
Yeah, I keep runnin’, jump in the aqueducts
Fire hydrants and hazardous
Smoke alarms on the back of us
But mama, don’t cry for me, ride for me
Try for me, live for me
Breathe for me, sing for me
Honestly guidin’ me
I could be more than I gotta be
Stole from me, lied to me, nation hypocrisy
Code on me, drive on me
Wicked, my spirit inspired me
Like yeah, open correctional gates in higher desert
Yeah, open our mind as we cast away oppression
Yeah, open the streets and watch our beliefs
And when they carve my name inside the concrete
I pray it forever reads

[Beyoncé:]
Freedom! Freedom! I can’t move
Freedom, cut me loose!
Freedom! Freedom! Where are you?
Cause I need freedom too!
I break chains all by myself
Won’t let my freedom rot in hell
Hey! I’ma keep running
Cause a winner don’t quit on themselves

[Kendrick Lamar:]
What you want from me?
Is it truth you seek? Oh father can you hear me?
What you want from me?
Is it truth you seek? Oh father can you hear me?
Hear me out

Best Wishes!

Tashia
